January 6 - January 12: See how Britney Spears, 'N Sync, Panic! At the Disco, One Direction, and The Verve marked this week in history for pop music from the past 30 years.
1998 - The Verve
American audiences become acquainted with British 90's rockers, The Verve. Nike debuts its "I Can" commercial with their iconic 90's tune "Bitter Sweet Symphony."
1999 - Britney Spears
Pop icon, Britney Spears, releases her first album in 1999, ...Baby One More Time.
2002 - 'N Sync
Saturday Night Live airs a skit this week in 2002 centered around the boy band 'N Sync appearing in the latest Star Wars film, 'Attack of the Clones' and the backlash Star Wars fans had of the cameo. The skit features an over-the-top cameo by the boy band, including Jimmy Fallon as Justin Timberlake. Because SNL is so protective of their material on the internet here's a little info from Lance Bass of 'N Sync about their cameo in the Star Wars film that eventually got cut from the final edit.
2008 - Panic! At the Disco
Panic! At The Disco release of their album, Pretty. Odd., featuring the upbeat song "Nine In the Afternoon".
2013 - One Direction
The British Boy band, One Direction, win Favorite Album (Up All Night) and Favorite Song ("What Makes You Beautiful") and the People's Choice Awards.
