If you typically travel down State St. in Bangor, consider this a heads up: Starting today, and going through the end of the month, construction crews will be replacing a water main in the area of State St. and Hancock St. That area of town sees quite a bit of traffic, as it's also the major entrance to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center.

According to a press release sent out by The City Of Bangor, both the employee parking lot and the Emergency Room entrance will remain open for the duration.

Public Information Coordinator for the city of Bangor, Angel Matson, says the work will be taking place in the evening and overnight mostly.

" The work will take place from 6 PM to 6 AM, Sunday-Friday and will continue through the month of April. While work takes place, State Street eastbound traffic will remain normal. State Street westbound traffic will be detoured up Howard Street, turning left on Garland Street, then turning left onto Fern Street."

Matson says that during the construction times, Otis St. will also be closed, except to local traffic.

Aside from an impact to traffic, businesses and residences in the area may be subject to temporary disruptions to their water service. The Water District will attempt to let folks know in advance of any needed shut down of water to certain area. If you have any questions, you can call the Bangor Water District at 207-947-4516, or Bangor City Hall at  (207) 992-4200.
