Hey Maine, The Price of Your Netflix Subscription Is Going Up
This may make you not want to 'Netflix and Chill"
As if the big streaming services cracking down on password sharing isn't enough, Maine residents will be paying a little bit more to watch their favorite movies, and binge watchable shows.
There is no doubt that streaming services like Netflix really come in handy during a long, cold, bleak Maine winter, but it doesn't come without a price.
After seeing an increase of almost 19 million new subscribers in 2024, the compmay announced that it will increase the cost of their monthly service fee, in the United States and other countries, this also includes their first price on their ad supported tier plans. Yikes.
Under the new pricing in the standard plan without ads will rise by $2.50! that is an increase from $15.49 to $17.99 per month. It’s been three years since Netflix upped the pricing of the Standard tier.
Netflix’s ad-supported tier will cost $7.99 per month, up $1 from $6.99. The price of the Premium tier, with four simultaneous streams, will be $24.99 per month, up $2. If you want to add an extra memeber to your account, that pirce is increasing from $7.99 to $8.99 per month.
So even though it is a fairly small bump, most of us subscribe to way more than just one streaming platform, which is another problem altogether, but we can table that discussion for another day.
In a perfect world, we would be able to find all the shows we love in one convienient place, for one flat, affordable price, but that day is clearly not here yet.
On the bright side, there is no shortage of content to enjoy! Here is a look at what is coming our way in 2025.
