This may make you not want to 'Netflix and Chill"

As if the big streaming services cracking down on password sharing isn't enough, Maine residents will be paying a little bit more to watch their favorite movies, and binge watchable shows.

There is no doubt that streaming services like Netflix really come in handy during a long, cold, bleak Maine winter, or rainy spring, but it doesn't come without a price.

After seeing an increase of almost 23 million new subscribers in 2025, the company announced that it will increase the cost of their monthly service fee, in the United States and other countries.

Netflix is increasing prices for all tiers, marking its first major hike in over a year. The ad-supported plan will rise by $1 to $8.99 per month. The standard plan increases by $2 to $19.99, and the premium plan also rises by $2 to $26.99. Netflix is also raising its “extra member” fee by $1, now $6.99 for ad-supported accounts and $9.99 for ad-free ones.

So even though it is a fairly small bump, most of us subscribe to way more than just one streaming platform, which is another problem altogether, but we can table that discussion for another day.

In a perfect world, we would be able to find all the shows we love in one convenient place, for one flat, affordable price, but that day is clearly not here yet.

On the bright side, there is no shortage of content to enjoy! Here is a look at what is coming our way in 2026.
