Move over, other states! Maine’s breakfast sandwich is officially one of the best in the country

If you are a true "foodie", Chowhound is a website for passionate food lovers to share restaurant reviews, cooking tips, recipes, and food-related discussions.

Their focus is on food news and trends, recipes, restaurant recommendations, and cooking guides. They also love lists (we do too!)

When it came down to picking the best breakfast sandwiches in the United States, one Maine creation rose above the rest, and one look at it will tell you all you need to know.

Tandem Coffee & Bakery, located at 742 Congress Street, in Portland, is a very unique spot, because the building was originally a 1960's Gulf gas station, that was transformed into a café and bakery, but the original charm of the gas station aspect still remains.

The garage bays were turned into bright café spaces, and they kept a lot of the original structure intact, giving it a very cool, retro feel.

The breakfast sandwich at Tandem Coffee & Bakery is simple, but delicious, crafted on a soft, buttery biscuit with a square of baked egg, a slice of white cheddar cheese, and spicy mayo.

The sandwiches are steamed to meld the flavors and keep the biscuit tender and buttery. You can also choose add-ons like chorizo or spinach. Yum!

Just how good is it? Tripadvisor praises it as possibly “the best breakfast sandwich ever,” especially noting the biscuit, sausage, and egg combo.

To say that people love the sandwich, would be an understatement. Reviewers comment on everything from the freshness of the biscuit, to the way the egg and cheese just melds together, and combined with the smokiness of the pimenton sauce, it is a treat that is hard to beat

Just be sure to get there early because the sandwiches often sell out.
