It's the end of an era on the East Side of Bangor

There is something special about a local business that serves up a great sandwich. It is just so much better than grabbing food at a national chain. It becomes a part of the community, so it's a bummer when one has to close.

After a 14-year run, the Legacy Sandwich Shop, will close their doors for good, on Saturday, September 28th.

Owner Diane Bernosky, who has owned Legacy since 2019, announced the sad news in a recent Facebook post:

Once again, the reason for closing is an all too familiar one. Some businesses just simply never recovered from the pandemic, and of course you can add in staffing issues into the mix as well.

Legacy Sandwich Shop opened their doors, back in 2010, looking to fill the void of the legendary Coffee Pot, which was a Bangor institution for almost 80 years. In fact, the business is located next door to the iconic sandwich shop.

When Coffee Pot owner Skip Rist, decided to retire for good, back in 2009, lots of people attempted to recreate the magic. In fact, for several years now, there has been a Coffee Pot location on Broadway in Bangor.

I personally have many fond memories of standing in long lines, back in the day, waiting for Skip to make my Super Deluxe Salami, with light onions and no tomatoes. Anyone who ever visited there, knows that the onions were rather potent.

I have also visited Legacy many times over the years, and always enjoyed grabbing lunch there.

You still have a few weeks to stop in, order a sandwich, and wish Diane well, at 163 State Street in Bangor.

The Legacy Sandwich Shop is open Monday-Saturday, from 10am-3pm.
