There are many iconic Maine restaurants, but one towers above the rest!

Business Insider tells the global tech, finance, markets, media, healthcare, and strategy stories you want to know, but they also dabble in other areas, including food.

Recently, thet comprised a list of the "Most Famous Restaurants In Each State" some of them are fancy dining establishments, and others a re little more causual places, like BBQ joints, sandwich shops, and in our case, lobster joints!

What was Business Insider's criteria?

  • Culinary awards
  • TV and movie appearances
  • Celebrity sightings.

You probably could have easily named the legendary Dysart's to the top of the list, but in the end, The Lobster Shack at Two Lights, located in Cape Elizabeth, was victorious.

Open since the 1920s, The Lobster Shack at Two Lights, sits atop the shores of Cape Elizabeth, serving lobster rolls and fried seafood by the basket all summer long.

They kicked their fame factor up a notch, when Food Network, celebrity chef and TV personality, Bobby Flay visited the eatery on his show "FoodNation". which then thrust The Lobster Shack at Two Lights, directly into the national spotlight.

You can enjoy your meal oceanside on the picnic tables, perched just above the crashing surf, below the lighthouse and next to the fog horn. Or stay in the cozy dining room, watching the ships entering Portland Harbor, and the local fishermen haul up their daily catch.

This is a must add to your Maine Summer Bucket List!
