Bangor Humane Society to Re-Open Monday

Another good sign. The Bangor Humane Society on Mt. Hope in Bangor, is re-opening to the public and resuming regular hours of operation. Alright.

Since mid March it's been appointment only even though as an essential service the doors were open. But as you can imagine traffic was down. But that's behind us and let's hope an adoption is just want your family needs and wants now.

" As much as we love having a full house, we'd rather see these animals find loving, permanent homes. That's why we're here, " said Suzan Prendergast, Executive Director of the Bangor Humane Society.

Beginning Monday, July 6th, the shelter will be open from 12pm-6pm Monday-Friday, and from 10am-6pm on Saturdays. With the increase in foot traffic, they will be asking the public to follow these guidelines:

No more than 10 visitors will be allowed in the shelter at any given time. Entry will be allowed on a first come, first served basis. This system will be regulated with number cards located at the entry. Each individual visitor must take a number card (family of four=four cards). If there are no numbers available, visitors are asked to wait outside or in their vehicles until a number card becomes available. Cards will be sanitized before being replaced for the next visitor in line.
Masks will be required for all visitors; no exceptions will be made for those wishing to meet with animals and/or complete adoptions with a counselor.
Guests will be encouraged to follow social distancing guidelines.
Plexiglass germ shields have been installed at all stations that serve the public.
Brochures and paper materials will be limited.
Sanitization stations will be available at the door and throughout the facility.
Routine sanitizing will take place regularly in all public-trafficked areas.

Following their year-long Capital Campaign, the Humane Society was just finishing a massive shelter renovation project when COVID hit. Sadly, this also meant putting off plans to celebrate the opening of their revived facility, and limited the community's access to the new and improved space. Prendergast said, "Though this isn't how we imagined the reveal, we are excited to welcome people back into the shelter to see the transformation. We are grateful for the support and patience of this wonderful community."
