July 19th - July 25th: See how Cardi B, The Weeknd, Aaliyah, Beyonce, The Plain White T's, Limp Bizkit, Amy Winehouse and Magic! marked this week in history for pop music from the past 30 years.
1999 - Limp Bizkit
All hell breaks loose at the 30th anniversary Woodstock show. The band performs "Break Stuff" which leads to rioting and chaos within the festival. The event is dubbed "Apocalypse Woodstock" by MTV, who covered the festival.
2001 - Aaliyah
Sadly, it is this week in 2001 that R&B singer Aaliyah gives her final performance on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. One month later, the singer passes due to a plane crash in the Bahamas.
2002 - Beyonce
Queen Bee makes her film debut in the Austin Powers sequel Goldmember. She stars as Foxxy Cleopatra who is a "whole lotta woman".
2007 - Plain White T's
The acoustic tune 'Hey There, Delilah" is running up Billboard's Hot 100, currently at #2 but will spend 2 weeks at number one and 16 weeks all together on the chart.
2011 - The Weeknd
This week in 2011, The Weeknd nervously performs his first show ever. The show is at the Mod Club in Toronto.
2011 - Amy Winehouse
Amy died this week in 2011 after years of struggle with drugs and alcohol. She dies in London of alcohol poisoning at the age of 27.
2014 - Magic!
A band out of nowhere brings the earworm 'Rude' to our radio waves and is number two, but soon-to-be number one, on Billboard's Hot 100 this week in 2014.
2018 - Cardi B
Cardi B is burning up the Billboard Hot 100 at #2 with Bad Bunny and J. Balvin on 'I Like It' and #3 with Maroon 5 with 'Girls Like You'.
