Volunteers Needed to Pack, Deliver Meals In Eastern Maine
The pandemic has hit hard for some age groups more than others and, right now, Mainers need help from Mainers.
The Eastern Area Agency on Aging is a nonprofit that serves the older population of Penobscot, Piscataquis, Hancock and Washington counties here in the State of Maine and they are looking for volunteers to help with their Meals on Wheels program.
According to the EAAA, their Meals on Wheels program is seeing need that has tripled since the height of the pandemic six months ago.
The agency needs help with packing the food needed for deliveries as well as looking for drivers to deliver the prepared and packed meals.
If you are interested in volunteering, call 1-800-432-7812 or visit EAAA.org to fill out a volunteer application.
Do you know a local senior who could use their services? This service is available short term and long term, really depends on their need. Here's the criteria for a senior to receive Meals on Wheels:
- Senior must be 60 or older, homebound and unable to leave home without assistance
- Senior unable to make meals and has no one available to prepare a meal for them
If you know someone that could use this service, be sure to direct them to the 'Contact Us' page at the Eastern Area Agency on Aging website.
