
Urban Pizza in Bangor, Maine Closes for Good
From Detroit-style to classic slices, Urban Pizza helped shake up the Bangor pizza scene while it lasted.
Due to recent changes to Maine’s liquor license laws, Urban Pizza at 329 Main Street in Downtown Bangor, is no longer open. The new rules limit how many licenses their ownership group can hold, which made it tough to justify keeping one tied to this location while also supporting their other long-term spots. In the end, they made the call to close up shop for good.
Their final day was Wednesday, April 29th. The owners shared their appreciation for both their Main Street staff and the support they got from the Greater Bangor community. They’re working to move employees into other roles within the company where possible. While this location is now closed, they say Urban Pizza as a concept isn’t going anywhere. The plan is to relocate to Bar Harbor, where they already have a liquor license, and reopen there down the line. They also said they’d love to see another great pizza spot take over the Bangor space, especially given how much the Bangor dining scene has grown and evolved in recent years.

They also gave a nod to the state legislators who tried to help sort things out, even though it didn’t ultimately come together, and said they hope to keep working toward changes in the future.
Urban Pizza had only recently reopened in Bangor in December 2025 after about a year closed, bringing back its “multi-style, modern pizza” concept. It stood out in the local food scene for offering a mix of styles—New York–style slices, Sicilian squares, Detroit-style pies, South Shore bar pies, and their own specialty “Upizza” creations.
