The good folks at the United Way of Eastern Maine need your help this week!

The Eastern Maine United Way 'Week of Action' is here. They kicked things off on Monday, at Second Street Park in Bangor, at an event that featured guest speakers from UWEM and Together Place Peer Run Recovery Center. They spent the afternoon creating flower gardens, a community garden, and a neighborhood cleanup, all to help make a better community here in Eastern Maine, but they aren't done yet.

This Thursday from 10am-4pm, there will be a Basic Needs Drive, at the Bangor Walmart, located at 900 Stillwater Avenue, in Bangor. The United Way is looking to collect products that satisfy basic needs, like personal hygiene products, such as toothpaste, deodorant, underwear, socks, diapers, etc. These itmes are frequently hard to come by for area homeless shelters. Products collected at the Bangor drop off location will be donated to the Hope House Health and Living Center.

There will also be a collection at Reny's, at 175 High Street, located in Ellsworth Shopping Center. Items collected there will be donated to Emmaus Homeless Shelter.

On Friday, from 9 am–2pm, the United Way of Eastern Maine will host a blood drive at the Red Cross Blood Donor Center, located at 900B Hammond St, in Bangor. The Red Cross is experiencing a severe blood shortage, and they need your help! Type O blood donors are especially needed.

Sign up at redcrossblood.org using code UNITEDWAY. They are only accepting donations by appointment. Amazon is thanking donors for the rest of June 14-30 with a $5 Gift Card by email.

Help out the United Way of Eastern Maine this week by donating to the Basic Needs Drive on Thursday, and by giving the gift of life on Friday!
