Transformer Explosion Causes Outages in Downtown Bangor

A reported transformer explosion near High Street caused power outages in much of Downtown Bangor Wednesday afternoon.

The explosion was near High Street, according to a Facebook post from the city.

Emera Maine crews were working to restore power. Emera Maine gave an estimate of 2:30 p.m. for power to be restored.

The outage affected about 1,100 customers.

The Bangor Fire Department posted a photo of a dead squirrel as a possible explanation for the outage.
