The United Way of Eastern Maine is getting ready to kick off another year of fundraising. In years past, they've held a big rally to celebrate, but this year, with social distancing in play, has presented some challenges. But they've stepped up to the plate and thanks to some "outside of the box" thinking, they've got something really cool in store for their donors this year.

According to the United Way Kickoff to the Campaign Facebook Event Site, they're planning a special treat.

"United Way of Eastern Maine takes over the Bangor Drive In for a socially distanced kick-off celebration for our donors. At dusk, buckle-up and silence your cell phones as we present a FREE showing of the family friendly classic BACK TO THE FUTURE! This socially distanced celebration experience is filling up fast and space is limited."

They'll have refreshments and entertainment before the feature film. But you'll want to reserve your spot ASAP as they are filling up quickly. www.unitedwayem.org/drivein

Originally schedules for this week, United Way of Eastern Maine's President, Shirar Patterson says they've had to fall back on the rain date of Thursday October 1st from 5:30 to 9PM.

Each year, the UWEM sets out to help out the population of Eastern Maine -- close to 300,000 people. Their goal, according to their website:

"UWEM wants to engage more people, raise awareness of the issues our communities face, and activate our cross-sector network of partners. Join us in creating long-term, sustainable change together!"

Some of their initiatives include the 211 Help Line, Food Security, Neighbors United (supply drives) and overall volunteerism.
