The Ohio Street Bridge Is Finally Open. Can We Get A Cake To Celebrate?

I feel like holding a block party! I probably would, if not for Covid-19, because my neighbors and I can finally rest a little more peacefully now. The Maine DOT finally opened the newly replaced Ohio Street Bridge this week, and while they still have some loose ends to tie up, this is awesome news for those of us who live in that area.

It's been a long year, with roads being torn up and detoured, jack-hammers going at all hours of the night, and motorists trying to take short-cuts down our road, at break-neck speed, trying to avoid construction.

Don't get me wrong, I can appreciate that the bridge needed to be replaced, as a lot of the aging infrastructure does across this state. And I also appreciate the hard work that goes into such an endeavor; the men and women who make the plans and then carry out the deconstruction and reconstruction of such a structure--it's hard work! And it has been cool to see the big machines in action, most of the time.

But when roads around you get shut down, and huge construction vehicles and equipment brought in...and then months and months of the noise and the mess...

I have neighbors who live on the corer of 15th and Ohio...their entire house shook from the night work, for over a week. I know it's necessary--again, I get it. But it doesn't mean it's fun!

I'm just happy it's over and that we can finally get from here to there, across the bridge, and save a little chunk of time doing so. It's a project that's in the rearview mirror now, and that's a good thing.

Thank you to all who worked so hard to make it happen. And thank goodness it's complete!

Seriously, can we get a giant cake to celebrate? You think they make "Bridge Completion" cakes? I'm gonna go check on that. And now it won't take me forever to detour around things when I head to shop!
