The Ellsworth Burger King is Becoming a Mexican Restaurant
If you had hopes for the return of a Whopper to Ellsworth I hate to dash your dreams. But the good news is that the long-vacant former Burger King restaurant is going to be reborn as a Mexican Restaurant, according to city officials.
If you have driven by the restaurant on High Street you may have noticed work being done. According to Lori Roberts from the Ellsworth Code Enforcement Office, the Mexican Restaurant is scheduled to open around June 1.
There is still work to be done, in that they will need to obtain state and city licenses including building (alteration) permits, and sign licenses and liquor licenses. The Code Office needs to sign off on the number of seats in the restaurant to ensure there is enough parking. The owners will have to apply to the state for liquor licenses as well.
The Ellsworth Burger King, owned by Steve Wegner was one of four Burger Kings that closed permanently after service on Monday, December 28, 2020. In addition to the Ellsworth Burger King, the Hogan Road Bangor, Orono and Rockland Burger Kings were closed
