The JD Foundation is holding a workshop in Brewer to focus on suicide awareness and prevention.  It is to take place this Wednesday, September 12th at 6 PM at the Machias Savings Bank located on Wilson Street in Brewer.

The Facebook event does mention that this workshop is LD609 compliant for those working in schools in the State of Maine.

The JD Foundation describes itself as an educational resource to inform Mainers of suicide prevention and bullying by raising awareness.

The CDC published a press release announcing that suicide rates are rising and that suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States.  It is also one of the three rising causes.

Researchers found that more than half of people who died by suicide did not have a known diagnosed mental health condition at the time of death. Relationship problems or loss, substance misuse; physical health problems; and job, money, legal or housing stress often contributed to risk for suicide.

There is another workshop scheduled in October on the 10th at 6 PM as well.
