On World Teachers Day, let’s all show some love for these amazing men and women!

Pretty much everyone has a favorite teacher, someone who went above and beyond to encourage you because they could see your potential. My theatre arts teacher at Bangor High School back in the day, brought something out of me that I did not know was there. I was painfully shy, and Mr. Jim Pike got me out of my shell, and quite frankly, I haven’t shut up yet. Beyond that, he was a great influence on me and several countless students, due to his kindness and inspiration.

Today is Tuesday, October 5, also known as World Teachers’ Day. This global event was created by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, back in 1994. Teachers mold future generations, so taking one day every year to say thanks is a wonderful idea that we all can get behind.

Not to mention that these folks are often underpaid, and underappreciated. During the remote learning part of the pandemic, many went above and beyond.

So, what we would like to do, is have all of you nominate a teacher that is currently making a difference. Maybe you are currently a student, or a parent, who would like to acknowledge the tireless efforts of an educator that is a part of your life.

Just because the title says “Nominate Your Choice For Eastern Maine’s Best Teacher”, we realize that we reach a very broad audience, so whether you are in Bar Harbor, Bangor, Lincoln, Waterville, or Dover-Foxcroft, feel free to cast your vote for your choice. Once the nominations are through, we will put up a poll so everyone can make their choice.

Happy World Teachers Day!
