Not Just Any Apple Day Is Coming, the Great Maine Apple Day Is Almost Here
The Great Maine Apple Day is coming soon to Unity, where the apple is the star and the harvest brings the community together.
This small town in Waldo County is the host of this annual event taking place Saturday, October 17 at the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association's Common Ground Education Center.
You can plan on activities, snacks, and cider pressing, which will be perfect for the kids, as well as demonstrations and panels, which will appeal to the older folks.
The four-hour event begins at noon and will feature a panel discussing cider making, a presentation about favorite kinds of apples for a home orchard, a demonstration on preserving fall fruit, a presentation about growing peaches, plums, and cherries in Maine, and a presentation on how to bake the perfect apple pie crust.
Attending the celebration, you will get to take a tour of the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association's very own orchards.
There will be samples to try and bring home as well as rare and heirloom apple varieties to experience. Local apple growers and other producers will be there for items to buy. Listed in these offers include not just apples, cider, and baked treats but also fruit seedlings and other fall produce.
You'll also get to try freshly roasted chestnuts! Where else could you find that?
This event will be strictly outdoors and require face masks. The event will also require attendees to pre-register to attend due to keeping a set limit number of people for the event due to the continued concerns of COVID.
See more about the event and preregister by visiting the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Associations' website, mofga.org.
