Millinocket’s Library Reigns Supreme With New ‘Gear Library’
A new trend we've been seeing in the past few years is local library's offering more than just books. In fact, there are libraries within the libraries, sometimes referred to as a library's 'Library of Things'.
Maybe you didn't know you could check out:
- a Maine State Park Pass from the Bangor Public Library
- a sewing machine or VHS-to-DVD converter from the Belfast Free Library
- planetarium and museum passes from the Portland Public Library
- an incredible array of legit 'Library of Things'- Kumihimo Kit, Circulator Sander, Soap making kit, blueberry rake, wood chipper, tortilla press, pasta maker, board games and so much more- from the Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick
But, yes, surprising you can.
Those things are cool but, there's one local library that is taking their 'Library of Things' to the next level and with a 'Library of Things' other area libraries in Maine could be very envious of.
The Millinocket Memorial Library is now offering gear to go enjoy the great outdoors. Currently, you can check out cross-country skis, skate-style skis, ski boots, ski polls, backpacks, and snowshoes for kids and for adults. You could even try out their fat bikes for winter cycling. Also available in Millinocket's 'Gear Library', which you may want to hold off on checking out until the weather gets a bit warmer, are paddleboards, kayaks, canoes, and mountain bikes.
You'll be able to check out items from the 'Katahdin Gear Library' whenever the library is open with curbside pick-up.
You can check out all the FAQs and the inventory by going to the 'Katahdin Gear Library' section of the Millinocket Memorial Library website. You can also follow 'Katahdin Gear Library' on Facebook.
