Maine Breaks Records With Visitors to State Parks In 2020
The state of Maine saw record number of visitors to its state parks in 2020.
On Monday, The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry's Bureau of Parks and Lands released 2020's information about Maine State Park visitations in a year of a pandemic.
For the first time ever, Maine's State Parks saw more than 3 million visitors in 2020. This incredible number is despite spring closures and limited capacities for the rest of the year due to the pandemic.
These visits included day-use trips and camping visits.
Breaking down the day-use versus camping visits we can see how the numbers add up.
There were nearly 2.8 million day-use visitors, which was closer to 2.7 million in 2019. Meanwhile, camping visiting was up 8% from 2019 to 2020, with about 280,000 visitors, which was more than 20,000 more than in 2019.
Some state parks are closed this time of year but, if you really got to get out into the Maine outdoors (and I don't blame you), check out '8 Places to Do Winter Camping In Maine'. The seasonal reservation call center can be reached by calling (800) 332-1501 or (207) 624-9950 Monday thru Friday 9 AM - 4 PM.
If you are willing to wait but want to start planning now, the Maine State Park reservation center will be open Monday, February 1, to take those camping reservations for the upcoming warmer camping season. By that time, you can book camping reservations online or by calling the reservation center (800) 332-1501 or (207) 624-9950.
