Ice Cream: What’s Staying Open vs What’s Closing Up For The Winter
As the temperatures start to drop, a number of outdoor staples from spring and summer start to close up shop for the season.
Spencer's Ice Cream
Spencer's Ice Cream at 77 Main St in Bradley, closed up in September.
Fielder's Choice
Fielder's Choice in Bangor, this Sunday, October 23rd, will mark the last day of the season when folks can enjoy outdoor mini-golf or ice cream.
Where they stayed open, through the winter last year scooping ice cream, we're told this year they will close just the Bangor location for the season and reopen sometime in the Spring. The rest of their locations across the state will remain open, but hours will change after Halloween.
Gifford's
Down the road, a bit, Gifford's Ice Cream on Broadway in Bangor will also be closing for the season after this weekend. They say their last day will be either Saturday or Sunday, depending on how much ice cream they have left to scoop.
Dairy Queen
The Dairy Queen on Broadway will remain open for another month. They're scheduled to close up their show briefly from December 22nd to February 1st.
The Dairy Queen on Stillwater Ave in Old Town "never closes unless there's a bad snowstorm or something" we were told when we called to check.

It's a good rule of thumb, at this point in the year, that if you're not sure if something is still open, you give a call to double-check. The good news is that while some outdoor activities are closing for the season, others are just getting started!
