Don’t Forget Your Shot Card, Neg Test When Going to UMaine Game

Spectators for some University of Maine sporting events will be required to provide proof of a COVID vaccination or a recent negative test.

The new directive applies to anyone attending a home Black Bear hockey game and basketball game. Each person will be asked to provide either their COVID vaccination card or proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test, which must have been administered within the previous 72 hours. This does not apply to children under the age of 12.

In addition, everyone over the age of 2 will be required to wear a mask, at all times during the game. The only exceptions will be when that person is eating or drinking. This directive applies to everyone, including students, staff, faculty, and visitors on campus, at all UMaine athletic events, regardless of their vaccination status.

According to the UMaine Athletics website, acceptable proof of COVID status include:

• Valid COVID-19 vaccination card
• A photocopy of a valid COVID-19 vaccination card
• A photo of a valid COVID-19 vaccination card
• A UMaine PointNClick green confirmation screen or MaineCard

University of Maine officials also reserve the right to request additional screening of patrons, before they enter the building. This may consist of a symptom check and/or a temperature screening.

Anyone who fails to provide the necessary proof of vaccination or negative test, or fails the enhanced screening will not be allowed to enter the building. Gates for each event will open 90 minutes prior to the start of the game, and spectators are encouraged to arrive early, in order to clear the entrance requirements with enough time to get to their seats.

These requirements will apply to University of Maine Athletics events at the Cross Insurance Center, Cross Insurance Arena, and the Augusta Civic Center.
