Dreams of a new skate park in Bangor are getting more real.

Bangor Parks and Recreation revealed what the plans are for the first phase of a skate park that will be situated at Hayford Park in the heart of Bangor. The information was shared on the Bangor Parks and Rec Facebook page on Monday.

Site preparation and materials gathering for the skatepark will be taking place mid to late May to make way for a new, concrete structure to be built by American Ramp Company, an outfit contracted by the City of Bangor. Completion for this first phase is expected to happen this summer.

Seeing plans and starting dates for the build of a new skate park have been long awaited, seeing as though planning has been 3 years in the making.  A skate park was first situated on the grounds of Bass Park, then moved to Maine Avenue.
This video below shows you what skaters have to work with now at the current skatepark on Maine Avenue.

Phase I is expected to be built with funds available this summer.  However, a group is helping to raise funds for a second phase to add more to the skatepark amenities. They are hoping to raise $125,000 for phase II by this spring.

According to the Bangor Parks and Rec Facebook post, the group has gotten donations from the Maine Community Foundation's Ollie Fund, the Jane and Frank Bragg Family Fund, a donation from Cross Insurance, and has received a grant from The Skate Park Project.  The group is continuing to raise funds to meet their goal.
