Bangor High School Plans School Walkout
Amid the national attention of ongoing mass shootings in America's public schools, a School Walkout has been scheduled at Bangor High School.
The purpose of recent high school walkouts have been to show solidarity with high schools across the nation in sending a message to the nation's representatives to find solutions regarding the increase in gun violence and mass shootings students have experienced while attending school.
The event is scheduled for March 14th at 10 AM. The Walkout will take place for 17 minutes to represent the 17 people killed in last week's shooting at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school in Parkland, Florida.
The event is being hosted by several area groups, including Women's Interest Group, a Bangor High School group who's mission is to provide a safe space for students to share thoughts, opinions, experiences and beliefs. The group also organizes fundraisers and workshops.
The group has also partnered with the Peace and Justice Center of Eastern Maine, Mom's Demand Action of Maine, and Partner's for Peace (formerly Spruce-Run-Womencare Alliance).
During the walkout, speeches from community leaders and those affected by gun violence will be heard. Supporters are encouraged to join the event.
