With the government shutdown with seemingly no end in sight, Bangor area businesses and state organizations are providing opportunities for those affected by the shutdown who are feeling the pinch.

Here are a few examples of how local and statewide businesses and organizations want to help.

The Maine Department of Education: Apply for free and reduced school meals at any time of year for your school age children using this form.

Banks, including Katahdin Trust, Penobscot County Credit Union and Bangor Savings Bank, are also offering special finance assistance for those caught in the crossfire.

Verizon Wireless: Offering up flexible payment plan options for service.

To see a list of area businesses that may not be included on this list, the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce has started a post reaching out to area businesses to comment on how they can help those affected by the shutdown.
