Coming to the Bangor Waterfront on Sept. 26 is an American Kennel Club (AKC) sanctioned dog match sponsored by the Penobscot Valley Kennel Club.  The event along the waterfront will be from 8:30 AM to 2 PM. It's back this year after a break for Covid last year.

Match shows give people who are new to or interested in getting involved in pedigreed dog events a chance to socialize their dog in a more informal setting.  Plus, they can get education from seasoned handlers, judges, and other more experienced dog owners in a positive way.

There will be a special tutorial on how to handle a dog in the ring early in the event, and then judging will begin.

Events will include Best in Breed, Best in Group and then Best in Show. The 7 groups of dogs are sporting, hound, working, terrier, toy, non-sporting, and herding.

The admission is free to the public.  However, there is a nominal fee to enter a dog. During the event, there will be voluntary donations for the Penobscot Valley Kennel Club who year-round donate dog food to local food pantries.

Who doesn't love dogs? But the dogs most love are mostly our 'mutts'. When it comes to professional dog shows, lots think of the movie "Best In Show."

This should be a fun event for all dog lovers, no matter your favorite breed, even if it is mutt. Let me know if you want to attend, Wiley.

LOOK: Here Are 30 Foods That Are Poisonous to Dogs

To prepare yourself for a potential incident, always keep your vet's phone number handy, along with an after-hours clinic you can call in an emergency. The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center also has a hotline you can call at (888) 426-4435 for advice.

Even with all of these resources, however, the best cure for food poisoning is preventing it in the first place. To give you an idea of what human foods can be dangerous, Stacker has put together a slideshow of 30 common foods to avoid. Take a look to see if there are any that surprise you.
