Television's first transgender superhero originates from Maine.

Nicole Maines, who became well known first in our area and then nationally when Orono high school officials refused to let her use the girl's bathroom, will now star as  transgender superhero Dreamer/Dream Girl on the CW Network's "Supergirl."

The announcement was made on a "panel" during this past week's Comic Con in San Diego.

Dreamer, who in real-life on the show will be named Nia Nal, will be a co-worker of reporter Kara Danvers in a news room. As anyone who watches the show knows, Danvers is Supergirl.

Pretty cool, eh?

Nicole Maines has been advancing her acting career since she graduated from high school and as you can tell by Maine's Instagram posting above, she's pretty psyched!

Maines and her family won a 2014 court ruling against the school that would eventually allow her to use the bathroom of her choice. It was the first ruling of its kind in the country.

"Supergirl" premieres on Monday night, Oct. 15, on Bangor's CW Network.
