A slight name change is coming to Wal-Mart Stores in Maine and around the country.

Wal-Mart Stores are re-imaging their brand as the store pushes more emphasis on online shopping. Effective February 1, 2018 the retail giant will drop the word Stores from its legal name, along with the hyphen.

Walmart President and CEO Doug McMillon was recently quoted in a USA Today article as saying,

“While our legal name is used in a limited number of places, we felt it was best to have a name that was consistent with the idea that you can shop us however you like, as a customer.”

The change is a reflection of how the company does business in today's world. With many online shopping options, an increasing number of customers are shopping at Walmart without ever setting foot in a brick and mortar location.
