Another day, another COVID-related cancellation.  This time, we're hearing that the 2020 Maine Whoopie Pie Festival will not take place in 2020.  Originally planned for June 27th, it had been pushed back to October 3rd in the hopes the pandemic would have run its course by then.  Sadly, it now appears that there will not be a major festival event this year.  Not a surprise, they could not find a way for the thousands and thousands of attendees to remain socially distant.

However, the organizers are not ready to allow the year go by without a celebration of the official dessert of Maine.

Apparently, they have an alternative event planned.  And, based on a post on their Facebook page, it almost looks like it will last the entire month of October!

It's not going to come as a surprise, but we can't find a way to safely host 7,000 people in central Maine on October...

I think we can all agree that we're anxious to see what they have cooked up as an alternative to the festival.

The Whoopie Pie Festival is just the latest in a long line of events cancelled because of the ongoing pandemic.  These include nearly every Maine fair, Boothbay Harborfest, Old Hallowell Day, and numerous 4th of July celebrations.
