Yessah bub! We want to hear yours, but we have a few of our own

Each year on July 20th, Americans celebrate the fortune cookie, a traditional part of Chinese take-out.

These crisp, folded cookies have a hint of buttery sweetness. Break them open, and you will find a slip of paper tucked inside with a message on it. The phrase will range from profound words of wisdom, or tricky riddles, to simple bits of common sense.

Let's think outside of that box, and imagine if they had Maine sayings inside them. The possiblilites are endless.

If you have had a conversation with a Mainer and didn’t know what the hell they were talking about, this might help!

To say that Maine dialect is unusual, would be a heck of an understatement. The accent can be jarring enough, but folks here also use some interesting sayings and catchphrases in their conversations.

We want to hear your thoughts on what the perfect Maine fortune cookie would say, but to get you started, here are a few of our personal favorites

"All stove to hell!"

"Tighter than the bark on a tree!"

"He grew up in the county!"

"Ayuh!"

"Those folks are definitely flatlandahs!"

"Well, aren't you cunnin!"

"Hard tellin not knowin"

"My grandpa was tougher than a bag of hammers"

"He's a few sticks shy of a full cord"

"He’s a half bubble off center"
