Up, up and away, in my beautiful balloon!

By all accounts it was a pretty great weekend to attend the 28th annual Great Falls Balloon Festival. Thousands of people in the Lewiston/Auburn area, and from all across the state checked out the high flying festivities.

After being cancelled due to Covid-19 concerns, the event was back at full strength this year.

Folks uploaded some very cool videos to YouTube and TikTok, to share the experiences of all the aerial sights and sounds.

This event is huge for tourism in the Lewiston Auburn area. People flock to central Maine to see the stunning hot air balloons and enjoy the other family-friendly festival activities.

Established in 1992 by a group of business people, civic leaders, and friends, the Great Falls Balloon Festival is a weekend-long celebration featuring hot air balloons, food, and entertainment.

Held at Simard-Payne Memorial Park in Lewiston, the event draws about 100,000 visitors during the weekend.

The Androscoggin River and rocky Great Falls provide a beautiful setting for the dozens of balloons that visit each year.

Balloon rides, a parade, food, live music, and games were all part of the fun too.

If you missed it, not to worry! Festival planners are already at work for 2022.

And if we have piqued your curiosity, there is another chance to enjoy hot air balloons in the state of Maine.
