The Facebook phenomenon that started in Brewer, is still going strong!

Back in 2020, early on in the pandemic, a Facebook group was created by a buddy of mine, Maine's own Joseph Meyers, from Brewer called Quarantine Karaoke. The idea was simple, go live or just upload a video of you singing.

Good, bad, who cares? It was a safe space for people to entertain, and be entertained while on lockdown and not knowing what the future would hold.

Since its inception in March of 2020, Quarantine Karaoke has over 644,000 members and has gotten them attention of local and national news outlets, and even one of the biggest singing competitions in history, American Idol

When the pandemic started, most of us sat at home bored and binged shows on Netflix, or kept an eye on the latest news during a pretty scary period of time. That is when Joe's incredible concept was born.

It all started when Joseph was sitting at his desk at work, when the old idea lightbulb came on.

The previous night he had recorded a video of himself singing “Blinding Lights” by The Weeknd while wearing PJs in his basement, and in an effort to create a small community, where all were encouraged to sing and have fun in a safe space while stuck at home, is where he came up with this genius idea.

From the very moment he clicked the button to create this Facebook group, it took on a life of its own. Within 24 hours 10,000 people had joined, within 3 days, 100,000 people, and on and on it went.

Guess what? Here we are in July of 2024, and it is still thriving, with over 644,000 members uploading videos every hour of the day, from all over the world.

The other amazing part is that you can watch people of all ages, sing all different types of music, in a non-judgemental environment. And although the the pandemic is thankfully over, that doesn't mean this karoke party has to stop,

It is a simple and very effective concept, in fact when you join the page, you are greeted by Joesph himself:

Welcome to QUARANTINE KARAOKE!! Created by: Joseph Meyers. Positive vibes only and FUN is a requirement!
