It seems like just yesterday we wondering if the Earth Day tradition of painted, naked bicyclists at the University of Maine would continue this year. Wait, it was yesterday. That's because yesterday (April 22) was Earth Day.

Today, we found the answer: Yes, it did continue.

About 50 people stripped down, painted up and hopped on a bike under sunny skies on Monday to celebrate Earth Day in a tradition that dates back to 1970.

Participants painted themselves with Earth Day themed images and phrases including "Keep It Green," and "I Love [the Earth.]"

University of Maine students have traditionally participated in the ride to call attention to an over-reliance on fossil fueled transportation.

Earth Day has a long, interesting history, which you can read about here.
