A tornado touched down Saturday in the Millinocket area and remained on the ground for approximately 2.4 miles, the National Weather Service said.

It touched down late in the evening about two miles to the northeast of Millinocket, the NWS in Caribou said Tuesday.

Meteorologists said the tornado was a confirmed EF-1 with maximum sustained winds of 90 to 100 mph.

A damage survey of the area was conducted Tuesday by NWS.
