Section Of Route 9 In Durham Closed After Culvert Fails
The heavy rain that's fallen across most of the state over the last few days has been wreaking havoc on some of Maine's major roads.

This past weekend, a large section of Pushaw Rd. in Glenburn had to be closed because a chunk had washed away in the rain and wind storm Saturday morning.
Tuesday evening at about 7 PM, the Maine D.O.T. had to put in place an emergency closure to a section of Route 9 in Durham after a 6-foot section of the culvert failed there earlier in the day (about 2:30 PM) due to heavy rain.
And the detour around the section will take some significant extra time to travel, so motorists will want to take that into account.
"The closure area is between Royalsborough Road (Route 136) and Pinkham Brook Road (Route 125), just east of the intersection with Route 136.
Detoured traffic should use Route 136 and Route 125 in Durham and Freeport. The total detour length for through traffic is approximately 17 miles. MaineDOT is installing message boards to notify drivers of the closure and detours."
The MDOT estimates that the closure will be in effect for two weeks. The plan is to replace that section with an arch that's double the size of the one that's there and will withstand any future major storm events.
