A Waldo county beach has been closed due to overcrowding during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Sandy Point Beach in Stockton Springs has closed due to overcrowding. Visitors seeking fresh air and a walk along the Penobscot River will find both parking lots taped off, and the main gate locked.

A local resident told us, the beach has had a full parking lot most days, as people look to get outside for fresh air and exercise. We were told the beach has been closed for about a week.

Back on March 27, many coastal Maine state parks and beaches were closed due to overcrowding making it increasingly difficult for people to practice physical distancing. That order remains in effect until April 30.
