There are lots of great choices for local food here in the Bangor area, but where do you go when you want a juicy steak?

With all due respect to the amazing Longhorn Steakhouse on Hogan Road in Bangor, it is a national chain restaurant, so that got us thinking about where to go when you want to give your business to a locally owned restaurant.

Whether it be an upscale dining environment or a family-style steakhouse, something brand new, would be a welcome addition to all of the great locally-owned establishments around the Greater Bangor area and beyond.

In fact, if you were looking for a Maine-owned steakhouse experience, most of your options are a fairly decent drive away. Also, some of them operate seasonally.

These 7 locations, in particular, have been singled out for their excellence in the state of Maine:

  • Bullwinkle's Steak House, 2919 Atlantic Hwy, Waldoboro
  • The Steakhouse, 1205 Post Rd, Wells
  • Mac's Grill, 1052 Minot Ave, Auburn
  • Trail's End Steakhouse & Tavern, 59 Eustis Village Rd, Eustis
  • J.R. Maxwell & Co., 122 Front St, Bath
  • Rustlers Steak House, 754 Roosevelt Trail, Windham
  • Jack Russell’s Steakhouse and Brewery, 102 Eden St, Bar Harbor

The Bangor Area Restaurants And Foodies Facebook page, is a great place to get reviews, and options about dining here in the Greater Bangor area.

I find myself going to the page quite a bit, because you never know what you will find.

Regarding a good steak, here is a recent question, and the opinions of some of the page members:

Where to get a good steak tonight? Standards are high - I’m from Kansas and grew up raising black angus.

I'm ok with longhorn. Just because it's a chain restaurant doesn't mean it's bad. Their ribeye is good.
Novios is hit or miss
Timber and even evenroods have great food, I just don't know about their steaks.

Provender Kitchen + Bar

All.my steaks are from creekstone farm Kansas.

Novio has their bistro steak on the menu this week. I’m pescatarian but I hear it’s good!

Butcher and Baker has a decent one. Otherwise. Emerys meats in brewer and a cast iron or a grill.

All local steaks will disappoint you if they don’t, let me know where you went. Best place to eat in Bangor is The Butcher The Baker! Go there!
