Interim Principal Named For Bangor High As Current Principal Faces Charges

It's been a busy week for Bangor's new Superintendent James Tager.

Just as he made the announcement of the city's plan to reopen schools with staff and students masking inside Monday, news broke that Bangor High School Principal Paul Butler was charged with an OUI stemming from an incident at the Bangor State Fair.

Butler, 50, was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.

No less than three days later, Tager has named Bangor High's Assistant Principal Brian Doyle to the role of interim principal.

In a press release issued Wednesday, Tager spoke of Doyle's eagerness to step into the Interim role:

"While meeting with Brian it was quite evident that he was eager to serve the students, faculty, staff, and the community of Bangor in an interim status."

According to the release, not only has Doyle been an assistant principal at BHS since 2013, but he spent time in the role of assistant principal in both Brewer and Old Town school districts before joining the Bangor School Department.

Doyle will work in Butler's place while the school department conducts an investigation into the allegations against Butler.

Bangor Police claim Paul Butler drove his pickup truck into a cement barrier at Bass Park Saturday night causing damage to his truck. They allege he then left the scene of the accident and was later pulled over when he apparently failed a field sobriety test.
