Put this burger on your Maine summer bucket list!

Going out for a fancy dinner can be fun, but sometimes all you really crave is a good old-fashioned, no-nonsense cheeseburger, especially when it’s served at an iconic drive-in style restaurant.

When the weather warms up, Mainers flock to Brunswick to visit Fat Boy Drive-In. This old-school burger joint is open from May through September, making it a must-stop for anyone visiting Vacationland. Locals love it just as much as visitors do.

However, as we head into June, they have yet to open for the 2026 season, with some talk around town that they may not open at all.

This 1950s-style drive-in even features car hop service, including the legendary, signature “Whoperburger”: a beef patty topped with lettuce, tomato, and Fat Boy’s signature “Whoper” sauce.

Originally established in 1955, Fat Boy Drive-In was owned by the Burton family for over 50 years before being purchased by Mike Jerome in May 2020—right in the middle of the pandemic.

While it keeps its classic 1950s drive-in charm, the restaurant has also modernized, offering cashless payments, accommodating dietary restrictions, and hosting fundraisers to support the local community.

Should they open their doors, it is a perfect summer road trip idea to make a stop in Brunswick to try this legendary cheeseburger for yourself.

Check out their Instagram page to see the full menu and mouthwatering updates.

Fat Boy Drive-In is located at 11 Bath Road, Brunswick, Maine.
