Maine Discovery Museum Celebrates New Display, New Executive Director and the ’90s
Folks at the Maine Discovery Museum have been busy these last few months. But they took time out to celebrate several things this weekend; a new exhibit, a new Executive Director, and a successful 90s fundraiser.
At the end of October, the MDM announced it would be demolishing the well-loved "River and Aquaculture" exhibits to make way for a new immersive exhibition featuring the Penobscot River watershed.

Work to gut the current exhibit to make way for the new one, set to open in March, has already begun, with much of the area left with just bare wall in the interim.
While folks wait for the new exhibit to take shape, they will no longer have to wait to find out who will replace the outgoing Executive Director for the Maine Discovery Museum, Niles Parker. Parker is set to move on to accept the position as Executive Director of the Nantucket Historical Association in mid-May. Kate Dickerson, who has been acting as the Interim Executive Director of the Maine Discovery Museum, since Parker announced he was leaving, has been named his permanent replacement. Dickerson is also the Founder and Director of the Maine Science Festival.
This past weekend, the Discovery Museum held its first big in-person fundraiser. The "ReDISCOVER the 90s Party" raised just over $20-thousand dollars which the museum will use to keep the bills paid.
Organizers transformed the Maine Discovery Museum into something straight out of the 1990s, while donors got to drink, dance, and game the evening away.
Dickerson was on hand to hand out special prizes to costume contest winners and mingle with Discovery Museum patrons.
