Hey Bangor… Say Hello To Tick Season. Again. Yay.

Look... I know there's really nothing new to learn about ticks. You're constantly inundated this time of year with every news outlet's annual story about how ticks are here already. Am I here to teach you anything you didn't know already? Probably not. Mostly, I'm here to commiserate with you about these stupid little jerks.

Until this year, I didn't think too much about ticks. I didn't own any pets, and I'm not the overly outdoorsy type, so they've never been too much of an issue for me. Then this winter, we decided to get a dog. And I was still kind of blissfully ignorant of ticks because we got him during the cold part of this winter.

Well, now that the snow's been melting and we've already had a bunch of days in the 50's and 60's, it's become quite apparent that ticks are ready to come out and play. We all know that ticks need a LOT of cold weather to be eradicated. And we haven't had a severely cold and snowy winter in quite some time. Not to that level anyway.

So now, it's a constant battle to keep the ticks off my baby boy, Neko. Already. In the middle of March. Again, no surprise. But so far, I've only found them on his bed. Which is next to my bed. So, if you see a house fire on the news in Hampden, you'll know why. the first time I find a tick in my bed, I'm burning the house down. That simple.

And worst of all, it's deer ticks that tend to come out the soonest. And they're little turds that carry Lyme Disease. Luckily, my boy has been vaccinated against Lyme. And takes a pill for ticks. So he's fine-sih. But where's my vaccine? Where's my my Tick Pill? Instead, I apparently get to buy permethrin infused sheets. They don't exist though, so I guess I'm just screwed.

The BDN has a lot to say about tick season this year. Again, all stuff you've probably read a million times too, but it's always good to double check yourself, before you tick yourself. That kinda rhymes right?

All you can really do, is what you've always done. Just be vigilant. Try to keep your pants tight around your ankles, wear long socks, and check yourself and your pets pretty much every time you go out in the grass. Is it a pain in the butt? Sure. But so is Lyme disease. So be careful out there. And watch out for ticking Lyme bombs!
