Here are the 59 Hand Sanitizers Recalled By FDA
The FDA has updated a list of hand sanitizers that have been recalled due to one particular ingredient that puts consumers at risk of methanol contamination.
These are products that are labeled to contain the ingredient ethanol, or ethyl alcohol, but are testing positive by the FDA for another chemical, methanol.
Methanol, according to the FDA, can be toxic when ingested or absorbed through your skin, such as would happen if utilizing the product as hand sanitizer.
The ingredient is an unacceptable active ingredient and is the reason for the recall.
Symptoms and side effects of ingestion or absorption of methanol include nausea, vomiting, headache, blurred vision, permanent blindness, seizures, coma, permanent damage to the nervous system or death.
