Green Day fans are about to get some new music from the band — and it's arriving sooner than anyone might have guessed.

Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has taken to his social media outlets to announce the impending arrival of the group's new single, "Bang Bang," which is due in stores Aug. 11. Nothing's yet known regarding whether the single is meant to precede a new full-length release, but Armstrong's announcement hints at further developments, adding, "Stay tuned for more details."

"Bang Bang" arrives less than a year after the band's most recent single release, the free 2015 holiday track "Xmas Time of the Year." Green Day haven't put out an album since 2012, when they released the triple-LP set ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, and ¡Tré! — all of which cracked the U.S. Top 20 — but they've been in the studio with producer Rob Cavallo off and on since early last year.

"There's definitely a great spirit going on. We've always been pretty charged up," Armstrong told Rolling Stone last April. "I've got, like, four or five songs right now. I'm gonna take it really slow. I'm just gonna make sure every moment is inspired and that we have something that's really special to us. And right now with the songs that we have, it's going in the right direction."

Whenever it arrives, Green Day's new LP will mark their first full-length effort since their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year — an honor Armstrong vowed wouldn't make them complacent going forward.

"We're not going to try and pull off some, like, victory lap over this because I definitely want the music to come from a real place and be inspired, not just because we got honored or anything like that, but because we're honoring music," he added. "We want to work on them, and we want to make a great album."
