Hannaford Pharmacy joins other major pharmacies in having the COVID-19 vaccine starting later this week.

The Bangor Daily News reported that Hannaford Supermarkets will start offering the vaccine to people 60 and older at 35 locations, using 3,500 Johnson & Johnson one-shot vaccines. That's according to the Maine Department of Health and Human Services.

Those are not part of the doses Maine got from the federal government. These are part of a separate federal retail pharmacy program, the BDN stated.

Hannaford pharmacy joins the ranks of Walmart, Sam’s Club and Walgreens, and more places will be added as the supply slowly ramps up.

Now there are 106 places to get vaccinated that are not a hospital, the newspaper stated.

Johnson & Johnson out of New Jersey has promised 20 million doses by the end of March, meaning Maine will see about 80,000 extra doses this month, according to the BDN. These pharmacies have also been helping Maine vaccinate long-term care facilities residents and staff.
