Former Marden’s Building in Brewer, Maine Gets New Owner

Well, just a few days after we speculated about the future of the Ruby Tuesday building in Brewer, some major news dropped about another iconic spot just down the road!

The former Marden’s property in Brewer has a new owner, and its next chapter could look very different.

Real estate investor Larry Springer recently purchased the property after it sat empty following Marden’s move to Bangor. Springer hasn’t decided exactly what will happen to the old store yet, but he told WABI-TV that if he could pick the next big tenant, he already has an idea: Costco. He says he’d love to see the popular retailer come to Brewer and thinks the property could be an interesting opportunity.

The deal is about more than just the old retail building. It also includes 58 acres of land behind the former store, so there’s plenty of potential and all kinds of possibilities for the property.

The space became available after Marden’s announced its move to Bangor on September 15, 2025. The Brewer store, which had been open since 1987, closed permanently on March 13, 2026, following a liquidation sale. Just three days later, on March 16, Marden’s opened its new location at 229 Springer Drive in Bangor.

After nearly 40 years, the Marden’s sign is gone from Wilson Street. Now, the property has a new owner, and potentially a whole new future.

On a personal note, I’ve known Larry for a very long time, and I can tell you he’s a great guy and a very smart businessman. So, I think it’s safe to say the property is in good hands.
