Fire investigators say the bodies discovered after an apartment house fire early Tuesday morning in Palmyra are likely those of a husband and wife.

The State Medical Examiner's Office is still working to positively identify the victims, but investigators believe the bodies are those of Roger Brown, 44, and his wife, Kayla Brown, 28, the Maine Department of Public Safety said in a news release Thursday.

Family members have already been notified that investigators suspect the bodies are those of the couple.

The cause of the 3 a.m. fire on Square Road remains under investigation, but investigators believe the fire started in one of the two apartments above the home's garage.

The release said the couple had lived in one of those apartments for the past 18 months.

Investigators said some of the 11 residents of the home heard smoke detectors at the time of the fire, while other residents heard nothing.

The cause of the fire will be difficult to determine, as the garage was flattened in the blaze, fire officials said.
