Areas of the state will see inches of rainfall for the first half of the long weekend.

The National Weather Service in Caribou is forecasting a wet weekend, but it won't be a total washout. Forecasters say rain moves into areas of northern Maine Thursday afternoon, becoming more widespread Friday night. Saturday will be the wetter of the weekend days, with areas of far northern Maine seeing a drenching rain.

Forecasters say, "These rain totals are still fairly uncertain, especially in the north, but over 1.5" is possible." Area's to the far north, along the Canadian boarder, could see 2-3 inches of rainfall. Flooding is not expected to be an issue.

The remaining days of the long weekend are forecast to be dry and sunny.
