Where to go camping in Maine with your dog

The Maine State Park system is all about family camping and bringing your dog along to enjoy the experience.

All parks that provide camping allow for dogs to visit, too, with the exception of Sebago Lake State Park. You still have plenty of choices on where to reserve your camping trip and bring along your pooch:

A couple of things to know when visiting with your dog

Here are a few notes when it comes to bringing your pet with you to a State Park:

  • While pets are welcomed at these State Park locations, you do need to keep your dog leashed. This is for the safety of your pet and for other campers. Your dog cannot be left unattended and must be in 'physical control' of a handler.
  • When reserving your spot, you might be placed in a less-congested part of the park.
  • Also, be mindful of your pet's waste. Immediate retrieval and proper disposal are expected.
  • No dogs on the beaches from April 1st to September 30th. Other times they must be leashed.

Reserve your camping trip to include your dog in this year's camping adventure at the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation, & Forestry website.
