City Of Bangor Tries Out “Right Turn Only” On Union And 15th Streets
One month ago, the City of Bangor released a statement letting folks know that the traffic pattern in the area of Union and 15th Street would be changing temporarily. The plan was to restrict motorists traveling along that stretch of road for a month or so, limiting them to making a right turn only.
Thursday morning the City started the demonstration.
According to Bangor City Engineer, John Theriault, the point of the study is to try to gather information to make that area, which has historically had a high number of crashes, become a safer road to travel.

So what can motorists expect?
"Traffic barrels and signage will be temporarily utilized to create the right turn in/right turn out traffic restriction so that the neighborhood and City staff can observe the traffic impacts associated with making this change."
According to the City of Bangor Website, Theriault says the demonstration isn't scheduled to take about a month to complete.
"The Engineering Department will conduct before and after traffic counts to have actual data on the traffic impacts resulting from the change in traffic access at the intersection. The Engineering Department will hold a public meeting following the demonstration project to discuss the traffic impacts and determine if the neighborhood is in support of this safety improvement project. Following the public meeting, the City Council will then determine if they wish the Engineering Department to move forward with the construction of the safety improvement project."
